LEATHER CARE

Our 7 secrets to preserve your leather pieces

At Katso Cuir, we know how precious your leather pieces are. To keep them looking as beautiful as the first day, proper maintenance is essential. Good news: there's no need for expensive products or complex techniques.

Here are our simple and effective recommendations for taking care of your leather and extending its lifespan.

1. Clean and hydrate regularly

Leather needs hydration to remain flexible and avoid cracking. A simple moisturizing cream is enough to accomplish this task. Apply a small amount of moisturizing cream without fragrance on a clean cloth, preferably cotton, then gently massage in circular motions on the leather surface.

2. A crease? A leather can be ironed!

And yes, contrary to what one might think! Iron on low heat and a cotton or silky cloth between the leather and the iron and you're good to go! Be careful not to put it directly in contact with the material. You can also iron it from the inside directly on the lining, if it has one. Always hang your leather on a hanger when storing it, this will prevent it from retaining creases.

3. Dust frequently

Leather easily attracts dust, especially if it is used infrequently. To maintain its shine, simply wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove accumulated particles.

4. Maintain the linings with care

The fabric linings of your leather garments also require maintenance. To clean them, prefer a hand wash with warm water and a little mild soap. Use the least amount of water possible to avoid affecting the leather, and let it air dry in a well-ventilated place. If you have any doubts, do not hesitate to entrust your pieces to a specialized cleaner.

5. Nourish the leather every six months

A leather piece develops a patina over time, making it even more beautiful if it is well maintained. To protect your pieces from drying out and preserve their texture, it is important to nourish the leather about twice a year. Use a moisturizing cream, as mentioned earlier, and a cloth to perform this care. This step helps to maintain the suppleness of the leather while protecting it from external aggressions.

6. Protect it from extreme conditions

Leather is a delicate material that can be damaged by:

- Sun: Prolonged exposure can dry and fade the leather.

- Humidity: Store your pieces in a dry and ventilated place to avoid mold.

- Rain: Waterproof your leather with special products to protect it from water and stains.

7. Avoid aggressive products

Products containing alcohol or perfume should be avoided. They risk drying out the leather or causing permanent marks. Always opt for gentle products suitable for this noble material.

With these few simple gestures, your leather pieces will last through the years without losing their charm. If you need personalized advice, do not hesitate to contact us. At Katso Cuir, we are here to assist you in the maintenance and preservation of your exceptional pieces.
